PHIL'S BDAY PARTY! JULY 2nd: 1st SATURDAY WORKSHOP & SWING DANCE, SOUTH BAY DANCE CENTER in LOMITA!
So I just asked Phil about starting off this newsletter with Jasper Cat story or his BDAY party plug... Guess u know what he picked. Jasper will never forgive him haha! Phil said, "As soon as I give him his food, he will change his mind." Phil just shared that the last two digits of the year he was born will finally match what his new age will be. Figure that out in 30 seconds or less, & prove you are smarter than me! He claims you can mathematically unravel the mystery; he is pretty slick with numbers. (And 5, 6, 7, 8!) We will be celebrating Phil with lots of cake (& snacks & complimentary water as usual)! Here is an early BDAY sentiment to Phil from me:

2016 INTERNATIONAL FLASHMOB WEST COAST SWING ROUTINE!
We are so excited to be teaching practice classes at WESTCHESTER ELKS LODGE in Playa Del Rey on Monday nights, & at MEMORIES in Whittier on Wednesday nights. (See Class Schedule link above for details. Go to our FB wall to get info & watch the entertaining routine! Also join the FB group: Los Angeles International Flashmob West Coast Swing. We will add a few Saturday and/or Sunday practices as well (venues TBA). The big performance around the world is on September 3rd (venue TBA; suggestions welcomed). We will add a few other local performances, such as at our 1st Saturday Event & our Thursday Dance, etc. Must be at least Intermediate level. Come even if you don't have a partner; we will try & help u find one. *NOTE* No practices on Mondays July 4th & August 22nd, or Wednesday, August 17th.
In case you aren't familiar with Flashmobs, they are choreographed dance routines that people learn (many different styles). The idea is to then perform at a big, public venue to surprise people (such as at an airport or train station), as the dancers "appear" from out of nowhere. The performance isn't "scheduled" for the public to know about. The WCS routines are now being performed Internationally! So last year in 2015, 5000 dancers performed the same exact routine to the same exact song in 170 different cities on the same exact day WOW! So great to support our community, & to inspire people who would not normally seek out dance (like going to class or seeing dance shows). What a great way to grow our Dance Family with our passions for WCS. For 2016, this fun routine will be danced to a great song "Classic" by MKTO! See resources above for info on choreographers as well. Btw... Several years ago, when we used to teach at the Hacienda Hotel, Phil & I were asked to do an exhibition dance for WCS at an Open House Event there. I picked the "Classic" song by MKTO! So this year's Flashmob routine has a special connection for us. Look up on Youtube: Phil and Mindia WCS.
RUMOR: TRUE OR FALSE? WE HAVE ADOPTED...
AN AMAZING KITTY CAT JASPER!!! Very true!
Well it's a cat to Phil, but more like a child for me haha! Since we moved in December, there had been a sweet cat hanging around our house. Turns out he had been abandoned, & actually he adopted us first! We took him to a great holistic vet, & Jasper is healthy yay! He has been stealing my seat on the couch (he likes my good energy), eating lots of yummy, healthy food that we give him (and then goes out for a walk: Sorry to eat & run), & sleeping over every night! (I know that was a run on sentence; I'm excited about my parenting opportunity. Phil thinks I'm an overprotective parent. That's because he is the one with two kids & four grandkids.) It's as if Jasper has been a part of our family for years. We are truly happy to give him a loving home. He is in the Orange Tabby Cat Family, although creme colored with light orange stripes. See our pics on FB of this beautiful boy. I learned that Tabby Cats have a signature"M" marking on their forehead. Remarkable! M is for: Mighty, Magical, Medicine, Miracle, Mystery, & of course Mindia haha! So we just heard a loud noise out behind our house; Phil went to investigate. All he came up with was Jasper Cat, looking somewhat guilty. Jasper came inside, & is now laying in between us. I think he wants some credit for finishing the newsletter with us! He certainly knows how to make an entrance (ask us about the rooftop story).

Here is where we get to pick on our readers (instead of each other!)
So last newsletter's pizza story was a big hit. I had actually drawn a diagram of what the unfairly cut pizza looked like. I was planning on showing it as evidence in our classes, but it mysteriously disappeared. (Next time I will take photos as proof.) So I am calling out Jim... He said that the solution for our pizza dilemma was to go back to getting two separate medium pizzas haha! I don't see what was wrong with my resolution. (But now I am thinking about pizza at 1:45 am & getting hungry. Time for bed.)

We have punch cards available for purchase: ten classes for $100 w/ the eleventh class FREE! You can use the card for my classes or Phil's classes. Punch cards do not expire. We do take credit cards in person or through our web-store.

Payment & Options: Dance DVSs are $35 each (plus tax if credit card payment). Credit card payments are available in person, (or cash or check in person is fine also), or through our web store. If order your DVDs through our website, you have the option to click the "pick up at class" option (to avoid shipping charges), or you can have them shipped.

* All of our classes are drop-in (some do run in a series). No partner needed for any of our classes. No prior dance experience needed for Beginner classes. Two left feet are welcomed; we will introduce you to your right foot! (Phil wanted credit for that last comment.)
* Once you have moved up from our Beginner level classes to Intermediate and then later Advanced, you are welcome to continue taking our Beginner classes for FREE! We want to encourage you to continue working on your basics; that is most important to develop a strong foundation. The best dancers usually are the ones who have worked on their basics for years. When you keep taking Beginner classes, you are also helping the new students to progress faster, since they get to rotate & dance with more experienced dancers.
